How we work remotely, all the time

Covid 19 has certainly thrown a wrench into everyone’s year. Even people who were “on it” early couldn’t have predicted what it would mean for business to have to pivot from an office to work from home in a day or two. Thankfully, we already work remotely on most of our projects so it hasn’t changed anything about how we work. Here’s how we’ve done it, and what we can continue to do for you when we’re not face to face…

OUR WORKFLOW

It’s REALLY important to have a buttoned up workflow for a situation like we find ourselves. Our server is always on and accessible from anywhere in the world. But we also utilize local storage of files that back up to the server at regular intervals. We’re not waiting on slow VPNs to get what we need, we already have it locally, but it’s also still backed up for redundancy.

When we share a file, we’ve been using online review software for years. We use Frame.io to send you a file that can be routed through your company and all the feedback is collected right in Frame. It’s timecode based so we know exactly what needs to be changed, and every revision is saved so you can go back and forth to see the updates. It’s also very mobile friendly and has iOS apps so even if you can’t be at your computer, you can review your videos.

When you have assets to share with us, big or small, we can provide access directly to our server so the minute the file is uploaded we’re ready to use it in your project. We also integrate with Dropbox and other cloud based file sharing platforms to get the files you want to send us as quickly and efficiently as possible.

SO WE CAN’T FILM NOW, WHAT CAN WE DO?

A portion of what we do is going out and filming, but we also do a lot of projects where we create content from scratch or we utilize stock/existing assets. That’s the easiest way to continue putting out compelling content in this “shelter in place” scenario. Here are a couple specific examples…

Motion Graphics Videos

It’s easy to create compelling, fun content for your audience by utilizing motion graphics. We can find the stock assets, craft the storyboard, do the voice over (finding great talent in their own home studios), and animate something all from the comfort of home. These videos really help tell a story in a fun way, and keep things interesting despite not filming any new content. Plus they’re easy to update in the future if the communication needs change.

Existing Assets

You need to keep putting out video content, and you have some existing stuff but you just don’t know what to do with it. We can help there too. We frequently work with client’s existing footage to create new stories that help push their messages but without the overhead of having to do a new shoot every time. One thing that’s really important when you do video content is to make sure you continue to add to your archive so that in a situation like this we can step in and continue to put out great content for you.

Utilizing Stock Elements

So when you can’t get out and shoot, and you don’t have an archive of assets, what are you going to do? It’s time to tell your story with stock. Typically this will be a voice over driven video where we create a script, source a VO artist, and then find the appropriate stock to help. We know all the best places to find stock photo / video to tell your story. Stock keeps the production value high and the costs low, plus it’s a great solution to execute content while we’re all sheltered in place.

Those are three great solutions we’re currently working on with our clients. We’re not scrambling to figure out how to collaborate remotely or putting new software to work we don’t really know.
