How we know we can film safely
In these uncertain times, it’s important to know that the people you’re working with are as concerned about safe practices as you are. Nobody wants to get sick while creating a video or photograph so here’s what we’re doing on our end to make sure that isn’t happening.
WHOOP STRAP
As you may have seen. Recently pro golfer Nick Watney discovered he had may have had Covid because he was alerted by his Whoop Strap that his oxygen levels were off (here’s the article). We utilize Whoop Straps in a similar fashion. The strap gives much more data than an Apple Watch or Fitbit and we have a base line of where our oxygen levels and such should be. If they fluctuate, we get a notification and know days ahead of showing any symptoms if we might be getting ill.
SOCIAL DISTANCING
We’ve adhered to all the social distancing rules put in place whether at work or in our off time. We’ve always worked remotely so that’s not a change. But we also don’t attend gatherings, we always wear masks, and we don’t go out unless we need to. The best way to protect ourselves and our clients from catching Covid is to avoid situations where we might be exposed. And we’ve been doing that since March.
TAKING EVERYONE’S TEMPERATURE
Before we even enter the shooting space, we take our temperatures. This is to ensure nobody has an elevated temperature that might be a precursor to Covid symptoms. We ask that anyone on set allow us to take their temperature as well before we start setting up. We use a non contact thermometer so everyone stays safe.
WEARING MASKS & USING HAND SANITIZER
In situations where we’re on set, we use masks and hand sanitizer. Full stop. It may not be the most comfortable way to do things, but it’s important to protect everyone around us so that’s what we do. We’d encourage everyone on set to utilize masks and hand sanitizer to protect yourselves and us.
ON SET
Finally, as we outlined in an earlier blog post, we practice safe distances when it comes to all on set activities. We’ll load in and set up with a boom mic so we don’t have to get close to the talent. We utilize long lenses so we can be set back from the talent and interviewer. And we have everything 100% set up ready to go before anyone else comes in. The talent comes in, does their thing, and then leaves. No hanging around and no close proximities.
